What counts as an electrical emergency
- Complete or partial loss of power that is not a supplier outage
- A consumer unit or breaker that keeps tripping or will not reset
- Burning smells, scorch marks or buzzing from sockets, switches or the fuse box
- Sparking or exposed live wiring after damage or DIY work
- Water leaking into electrical fittings
- Lights flickering badly or sockets that are hot to the touch
What to do while you wait
If you smell burning or see scorching, switch off the affected circuit at the consumer unit, or the main switch if you are not sure which circuit it is, and keep clear of the fitting. Never touch a wet electrical fitting. If you see flames, leave the property and call 999 before calling us.
If the whole street is off, check with your supplier first: Northern Powergrid's power cut line is 105. If only your property is affected, that is usually a fault in the installation and we can help.
How we handle the call-out
We carry the test equipment to trace intermittent faults properly rather than guessing. On the first visit our priority is to make the installation safe and restore power where we can. Any follow-up repair, for example replacing a damaged cable or an old consumer unit, is quoted before we do it.
Emergency call-outs cover Sheffield, Rotherham and the surrounding South Yorkshire area. Our normal hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm, and emergency call-outs are available outside those hours.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly can you get to me?
For genuine emergencies we aim to attend the same day. Call 07896 661884 and tell us what is happening so we can prioritise correctly and bring the right materials.
My electric keeps tripping. Is that an emergency?
Repeated tripping means a fault is present, often on a single appliance or circuit. Try unplugging appliances on the affected circuit. If it still trips, or you cannot identify the cause, call us and we will trace it.
Do you charge more for out-of-hours call-outs?
Out-of-hours visits are priced differently from a daytime booking. We tell you the call-out cost when you phone so you can decide before we set off.
